European Red Fox Taxidermy.

How the case was completed

It was decided to go completely overboard, using only the finest materials available to create this case. The best quality oak was used and, by example of this, the Oak originated from trees that originate from the Longleet Estate. Trees that were once planted by Capability Brown nearly 235 years ago. The case was then specifically designed to be a one off piece of furniture. The completed case then french polished to bring out the grain and imperfections located within the wood.
Imperfect Oak was chosen as it displays the best brain. A subtle watercolour was then painted onto the back of the case as not to over-power foreground and also create a seemless blend between the groundwork and the case itself. Everything colout you see in the case was applied by hand. In terms of duration, it is estimated that the finished article took around 3-4 months to complete.
Not many taxidermists take the time to re-create detail such as this, preferring to simply place their items of plain cheap bases with birds on sticks. That clearly is their choice, which is a pity to be simply driven by money rather than pride in their work. I have added a mixture of images in no particular order just to visually show the stages. Hope you enjoy it.

European Red Fox with prey. The case for those who are curious is 6 feet tall and 4.5 feet wide and just under 2 feet deep. The high quality English oak comes from Longleet House gardens and most likely was originally planted by Capability Brown over 275 years ago. Every colour you see in this case has been coloured by hand, every single blade of grass, piece of earth, everything. Over 350 man hours went into its construction. Fabulous piece of work attention to evrey single detail given, right down to the ivorine placque in a Rowland Ward style.
